Dr. Ryan Davies

Dr. Davies is the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Co-Director of the Heart Center Children’s Health (Children’s Medical Center Dallas). 

He attended Yale University School of Medicine prior to residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center.  He completed surgical training in pediatric cardiac surgery at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital-Stanford University.  

Dr. Davies was a surgeon at Nemours-A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, prior to joining UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 2017.  He specializes in neonatal and congenital heart surgery as well as the treatment of heart failure, including mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.  He has extensive experience with the use of both short and long-term mechanical circulatory support in pediatrics, including complex congenital heart disease patients with heart failure.  His research interests include the use of both local and national datasets to evaluate outcomes and construct risk models for children undergoing cardiac surgery generally and more specifically within the context of cardiac transplantation.  He has authored over 150 research articles in pediatric, congenital, and adult cardiac surgery.  He currently serves as a reviewer for leading journals, including: Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, ASAIO Journal, and Circulation, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.  In addition, he has held leadership positions in numerous organizations, including currently serving as a Director on the Board of the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network.
