Megan

“My name is Megan, I am a 31 year old mom of two heart healthy babies. I am a CHD warrior. I had open heart surgery in 1991 (one year old) at CHOC. I had a “full repair” for tetralogy of fallot. I have lived an extremely blessed and healthy life with no restrictions and no intervention since my first heart surgery.
My ACHD specialist is now thinking the time has come to “replace” my pulmonary valve as I currently have a patch. I am still in the midst of getting things ready for the surgery. I just recently got diagnosed with hemochromatosis which I a genetic disorder where your liver stores iron. So between both of these medical situations and raising two babies with a husband who is a first responder, we’ve been busy! But we are blessed every day to be safe, happy and “healthy”.

My hopes for my story is that if there is a mom out there with a baby who has CHD that they see my story and my triumph over this thing. That it is possible for their baby to live a normal and fulfilling life. Or, if there is a young woman out there worried about having children, I have to healthy babies. It is possible! Or maybe a teenager with a scar who is having some self esteem set backs, I am here to say that you can overcome that too. You are beautiful and your scar is your story!”
